Below are some frequently asked questions we hope you will find helpful.
Why is the clinic increasing the sliding fees?
The increase to our Sliding Fee Discount Program is necessary to meet the growing healthcare needs of the underinsured and uninsured, the increased cost of health care, ensure future sustainability and keep pace with the Kansas City metropolitan healthcare market.
We completed an extensive and comprehensive review of the existing sliding fees, allowable reimbursement from payers, all available Kansas Federally Qualified Health Center’s (FQHC) fee schedules and increasing costs related to labs, nurse visits, supplies and translation. In addition, we haven’t made an increase to our fees since 2018.
The fees collected from insurance and the sliding fee scale enable HPC to extend more comprehensive care to thousands of low-income, uninsured patients well into the future.
How will I be affected?
Each patient’s situation is different; however, eligible patients will continue to pay a flat fee or percentage of charges for services. The expected fee which is based upon the patient’s qualifying slide level will range from:
- Lab or nurse visits: $10-$25
- Medical and Psychiatric office visits: $35-$90
- Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder counseling sessions: $25-$70
- Substance Use Disorder group counseling sessions: $20-$55
- Routine dental care: $60-$110
- Medical procedures, restorative and major dental services will be discounted from total charges with patients paying between 25-60 percent of total charges.
Although patients will see an increase in what they are currently paying, i.e., a Slide A office visit increases from $20 to $35, HPC’s new fees for each service line and visit type remain at or below those of our local and statewide FQHC peers.
